Portugal

April 22nd-28th, 2027

This was our very first tour, nearly 8 years ago!

We’ll do this tour exclusively in a passenger van, but along the way there will be plenty of opportunities for casual walks in either Porto, Coimbra, or the Alentejano countryside. Not only will there be wine, and more wine, we’ll also introduce you to the important bubblies of Portugal, as well as a mini deep-dive into olive oil.

Seafood? Check. Suckling pig roast? Check. Chorizo and pata negra? Check, check and check!

Total Estimated cost person: €5000 with all lunches, dinners, lodging, entry fees, and transportation included.

Where We’ll Go…

  • We’ll kick it off in Porto for a couple nights at one of the most comfortable lodgings we use anywhere in Europe, right along the Douro river, and pass about 36 hours eating, walking, and drinking in this amazing city.

There will be great coffee, port wine, seafood (of course), and an artisan cheese shop. All of it OFF the beaten path of course!

  • We could spend a whole week here, but instead we’ll highlight some can’t miss stuff for a few days.

There’s a fantastic botanical garden, and a nearby friend that makes farmstead olive oil and knows a guy that makes awesome chanfana. There will be a suckling pig roast, a good look at the famous sparkling wines of Baga, and finally a traditional meal in a restored mill.

  • With a quick stop in Tomar along the way, we’ll continue the tour for a couple days in the countryside towns of Evora, Estremoz, and Arriolos.

The highlight of this part of the tour will be a visit to our longtime favorite winemakers Luis and Ines at Adega Monte Branco. It is a day and meal you’ll never forget!

Finally, before we drop you in Lisbon, we’ll make a final stop along the coast for the best fish and rice soup you’ve ever had!
